No great shakes here, just my personal mindset regarding painting figures. While I appreciate the artistic efforts of many great painters, I'm of the distinct mindset that it is much better to have an adequately painted figure that sees lots of action on the table over the years versus a few really wonderfully painted figures that see less action because to get them to that point took a lot more effort.
Of course, I have masses of figures and for those content to have much smaller collections, then better paint jobs for those with the patience and talent all I can say is "more power to them."
There's another reason I advocate the adequate paint job over the spectacular paint job. If all potential new entrants to this hobby see are the top notch figures, paint jobs, not sculpts, then a lot of those people might decide they aren't capable of that level and be put off from the hobby. And that's a loss to all of us, in my opinion. If, however, they see adequately painted figures proudly displayed they just might say to themselves, hey, I can do that. So, if you wonder at the quality of my paint jobs on display and wonder why I'd be so willing to let them be seen by all comers, keep this in mind. And, besides, I don't paint for praise, I paint because I enjoy the process without regard to the end result - excepting that I want to do the best job I can with my limited abilities.
So, there's my two cents on painting.
